I made a drastic life change and decided to give up diet soda today. It was kind of sudden and out of the blue, but it really needed to happen. I needed something to help fill that void, and that’s where this DIY flavored water comes it.
I usually drink at least 3 diet sodas a day….which is terrible. This flavored water is so delicious I don’t even feel like I miss pop!
I’ve even come to think that water can taste better than soda! I love making a batch of flavored water ever few days to enjoy. I make it a big pitcher and keep it chilled in the fridge.
Having flavored water on hand also has helped me drink so much more water.
I swear I’m more hydrated than I’ve ever been! Flavored water is the best way to encourage yourself to increase the amount of water you drink. It’s such a healthy and easy life hack.
How To Make DIY Flavored Water
After trying out lots of different combinations, the my favorite DIY flavored water recipe is made using:
- 2 liters cold water (1000 grams)
- 1 cup blueberries (frozen or fresh)
- 2 lemons, washed and thinly sliced
- 1 sliced peach or nectarine
- 10-12 chopped mint leaves
Throw everything together in a pitcher and let it steep overnight. You can use fresh or frozen fruit. I usually prefer fresh if it’s in season.
You can always mix it up or throw in your favorite fruits.
The mint is also optional but I feel like it really brightens the flavor of this water and makes it taste so refreshing.
One other thing to keep in mind! If you use frozen fruit, it will naturally color your flavored water. Frozen blueberries and raspberries create the brightest colored water.
