Dirty Monkey Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Banana – Bananas are the key ingredient in this drink. I like to use pretty ripe bananas because they're sweeter, but you can use whatever bananas you have available!
  • Canned Crushed Pineapple – I like to use canned pineapple because I think it gives the drink an extra punch of flavor, but you can substitute with 1/2 cup of fresh or bottled pineapple juice.
  • Kahlua – Kahlua is a coffee-flavored liquor. It adds richness to the drink and balances the overall flavor.
  • Aged Rum – I love using an aged rum because it adds a caramel note to the drink and ties together the Kahlua and the banana!
  • Coconut Cream – I use canned coconut cream, which can be found in the international section of the grocery store. This adds great flavor and creaminess to the drink.
  • Chocolate syrup – There is really nothing that doesn’t taste better with a drizzle of chocolate, but feel free to skip this if you don’t have any.
  • Whipped Cream – To make this drink extra special, I like to add some whipped cream on top.
