Ingredients

Jalapeno Simple Syrup

  • 3 small jalapeños
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

Spicy Skinny Margarita Recipe

  • 1/2 cup crushed ice
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice (1 small lime)
  • 1 oz jalapeno simple syrup
  • 1 oz silver tequila
  • 1 can lime sparkling water

Rim

  • Lime Wedge, plus one for garnish
  • Kosher Salt

Instructions

Jalapeño Simple Syrup

  1. Prepare your jalapeños first. Remove the stems and cut them into slices.
  2. Add the water into a small saucepan. Heat over medium-high heat until the water begins to boil.
  3. Add in the granulated sugar and stir continuously until the sugar is fully dissolved.
  4. Add in the sliced jalapeños turn the heat down to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes.
  5. Pour the mixture into a separate container and cool to room temperature. Pour the mixture through a sieve to remove the jalapeños if you want a milder simple syrup, or leave them in if you're looking for a lot of kick. I like to pour my simple syrup into mason jars for easy storage.

Spicy Skinny Margarita Recipe

  1. Start your cocktail in a shaker or jar - either will work as long as you have a lid! Into the shaker or jar place the ice, lime juice, jalapeño simple syrup, and tequila.
  2. Secure the top and shake to combine all the flavors!
  3. Use a lime wedge to wet the rim of a glass.
  4. Pour salt onto a wide plate. Place the outer rim of the glass in the salt to coat it.
  5. Carefully fill the glass with ice. Strain the shaken liquid into the glass.
  6. Top the glass with lime sparkling water.
  7. Garnish with a lime wedge and a slice of jalapeño and serve!

Notes

Jalapeño Simple Syrup Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Water - Room temperature tap water works great in this recipe.
  • Granulated Sugar - I like using granulated sugar because it's what I usually have on hand, but you can also use extra fine sugar or caster sugar.
  • Fresh Jalapeños - Use fresh jalapeños in this recipe! They're what give this syrup all its spice. You can use 2 habanero peppers in place of the jalapeños if needed.

Spicy Skinny Margarita Ingredients & Substitutions

Lime Juice - I prefer to use fresh lime juice but you can also also use bottled juice.
Jalapeño Simple Syrup - I love using my recipe to make this simple syrup to my preferred spice and sweetness level.
Tequila - You can use whatever brand of Tequila you like! For a smokier flavor you can substitute for mezcal.
Lime Sparkling Water - For this recipe, I use flavored sparkling water. Feel free to switch up the flavor or use plain sparkling water.
Kosher Salt - I like to use Kosher Salt to rim my margarita, but you can also use sugar or Tajín.
